Summer ideas for Switzerland

Start with the Matterhorn Village
In Switzerland, probably the best-known summer and now once again year ‘round ski area is Zermatt . And what a job the local Bergbahn does there. Lots of wide-open ski spaces and a snowboard park to attract those that are so inclined. All this and The Matterhorn too-oh the joy, the joy!!! The village is big, beautiful and bustling and there is a host of activities both day and night for the visitor. In fact Zermatt possibly offers more to the off season or summer visitor than many other alpine resorts.
But don't forget the Dom...
Lest we forget, just over the mountain – or is it up the road – is another fantastic Swiss village called Saas Fee. This village boasts Switzerland ’s highest mountain, the Dom –half of the Matterhorn is in Italy, silly – and it too has some pretty fantastic ski terrain to crow about. And it is one heck of a pretty town.
Or Les Diablerets
Also, and especially for those of you trying to avoid the run of the mill tourist, there is the glacier at Les Diablerets. Situated just outside the village bearing the same name, this summer secret is also within an easy drive of world famous Gstaad. This is a dynamite area in summer and worth a shot for hobbnobbers as well as those of you that are serious about alpine summer skiing
Yes, yes there are a – wait for it - couple of glaciers at St. Moritz. These however are smaller entries and best suited to those that want to go back home and say “been there, done that” you know the type. That having been said, the Italian resort of Livigno takes most of its die-hard skiers to the glacier at St. Moritz for fun and games-so who am I to say? Engleberg and Verbier too have glaciers, as does Crans Montana, but at writing I am not so sure they all run all summer, let alone all year. What I am sure of however is that none of them offer any extensive skiing anyway.
